Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)
Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) is an affordable, convenient language services option for communicating with Limited English Proficiency (LEP), deaf, or hard-of-hearing clients. It ensures organizations are compliant with government requirements for meaningful language access and serves as a great solution for areas where in-person interpreter services are limited or for emergency assignments.
What Is VRI?
Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is a video telecommunication service that uses devices such as web cameras or videophones to provide sign language or spoken language interpreting services.
Benefits of VRI?
- Visual cues like facial expressions and body language aid accuracy
- Allows for remote American Sign Language (ASL) services
- Qualified, trained interpreters ensure culturally competent care
- Reduces delays and confusion during encounters
- Compliance with regulations across multiple industries
when to use VRI?
Since this method of interpretation can be accessed through a PC, tablet or even smartphone, it allows for interpretation nearly anywhere making it a great alternative when an in-person interpreter is not available. In addition, VRI is helpful in conducting remote assignments that benefit from visual aid and do not typically work well with OPI services like dental appointments. VRI does have its limitations. It is not generally recommended for mental health appointments because it can be disorienting for patients suffering from psychosis. As such, it should be used with caution in these settings. Video Remote Interpreting is just one of the comprehensive language access solutions LAMP provides. We have assisted clients across multiple industries with high-quality professional interpretation and translation services in both spoken languages, as well as American Sign Language (ASL), for more than 20 years.
